Florida Sleep Center to pay whistleblower $300,000 and attorneys fees
Sometimes the scheme is simple. Here, a Florida Sleep Center just did not provide adequate physician supervision for six years.
Willard Revels, a former employee, informed the United States and it did not intervene. He persisted anyways with his qui tam suit that enables private citizens to file lawsuits on behalf of the government if they know of an individual or company defrauding the government. Ultimately, he prevailed, the United States intervened (only for the settlement), the Sleep Center paid a $1 million fine, and they agreed to pay his attorneys fees. Not bad for a day of not working.
Here’s the settlement agreement.
